Towering at 36 ½ inches, this monumental Chinese palace jar dates to the second half of the 20th century and displays the serene beauty of a classic celadon crackle glaze. The baluster-shaped body rises from a slightly flared foot and swells into broad shoulders before tapering to an elegant, widely splayed rim (with an opening measuring 14" diameter). Across the entire surface a fine network of craquelure—created when the glaze cools faster than the clay—adds depth, movement, and the softly mottled tonality prized by collectors.
The pale green hue is a modern homage to Song-dynasty celadon, yet the jar’s crisp proportions and high-fired stoneware body reflect later-20th-century production methods aimed at durability for interior display. Subtle variations in glaze pooling and crackle pattern ensure that each example is unique; two are available and are sold individually, making them ideal as single statement pieces or as a matched pair flanking an entry or fireplace.
