This Shigaraki-style planter celebrates the unpredictable beauty of fire and clay. The surface reveals earthy bands of iron-rich slip and flowing natural ash glaze that cascade in tones of brown, amber, and pale green. Each drip captures the alchemy of the kiln, where molten ash fused with the clay body to create glassy rivulets and a landscape of soft texture and shine.
The vessel’s hand-thrown form and subtle asymmetry add to its rustic charm, while the rhythmic incised pattern near the rim recalls traditional Japanese pottery techniques. Its unglazed sections show warm clay tones that balance the cooler glaze.
