This vintage Indian brass lantern is a richly decorative hanging piece, distinguished by its finely pierced metalwork and elegant architectural form. Crafted in warm-toned brass, the lantern features an elongated cylindrical body articulated with repeating bands of pierced foliate patterns and latticework panels framed by Moorish-style arches. These arched sections introduce a strong rhythmic structure, giving the lantern both visual depth and a distinctly architectural presence.
The domed top is similarly worked with pierced decoration and is suspended by a trio of brass chains, allowing the lantern to hang gracefully while maintaining good visual balance. The lower section tapers gently and terminates in a small finial, completing the silhouette with a refined, traditional finish. When illuminated with a candle or low-wattage interior light source, the pierced brass creates a soft, patterned glow, casting decorative shadows that enhance its sculptural quality.
This lantern is best understood as a decorative object rather than a primary light source and works particularly well in layered interiors—hung in an entryway, stairwell, or covered outdoor space, or displayed as a sculptural accent in a curated interior.
