This unusual sculptural duck is crafted from a mosaic of antique Chinese porcelain fragments, likely salvaged from Qing dynasty export wares. The assembled shards are predominantly blue and white, featuring underglaze decoration with scrolling foliage, florals, and patterned motifs in both cobalt and softer pastel tones. Some fragments include famille rose enamel, adding muted red and green accents. The bird’s slender neck and stylized profile are formed by fitting the shards into a handmade structure, set in a pale buff grout with visible seams that highlight the hand-assembled construction.
This piece is made of porcelain, a high-fired, durable ceramic valued for its fine surface and bright white body, developed and refined in China over centuries.
