Description

A pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty period hand-carved temple corbels from the 19th century, mounted on black bases. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period, each of this pair of temple corbels depicts two characters, an old bearded man and an assistant following him. The bearded man on the left may be a Taoist monk while the man on the right corbel appears to be a scholar.

 

Above each character is a nicely carved tree, possibly a palm tree and a peony tree. The attention to detail is highlighted by the remnants of the original paint. Mounted on black custom-made bases, this pair of 19th century Qing Dynasty Chinese temple corbels will make for an excellent decorative addition to any in any home, especially displayed in a living room where it will no doubt be a tremendous conversation starter.
