This late-19th-century Chinese Qing altar cabinet combines pierced and carved wood panels with brass hardware and richly aged lacquered surfaces.
The rectangular top is framed by raised, gently upturned ends, giving the piece the distinctive silhouette associated with traditional Chinese altar furniture. Below are two upper drawers, each carved with floral decoration and fitted with brass ring pulls. A horizontal metal locking bar spans the center, while the pair of lower cabinet doors retain additional traditional metal hardware and a key.
Each lower door is centered by a circular pierced geometric lattice panel, providing a particularly attractive decorative detail. The façade is further enlivened by deeply carved and pierced scrolling foliage running vertically along both sides. These openwork elements create a lighter, almost architectural quality against the substantial cabinet body. Carved aprons and shaped lower edges continue the decorative vocabulary.
Opening the cabinet reveals two drawers above a generous enclosed storage compartment. The interior retains a darker, more untouched surface, while the back shows layers of old red and dark finish, wear and oxidation characteristic of age and long use.
With its relatively compact proportions, the cabinet could serve today as a console, entry cabinet, drinks cabinet, bedside cabinet, or decorative storage piece. Its combination of sculptural carving, old hardware and beautifully worn surface gives it considerably more character than a later decorative reproduction.

Condition: Good. Surface wear, rubbing, scratches, small losses, age-related cracks and variations to the finish throughout. The back retains substantial remnants of an older dark red-brown surface with areas of wear and exposed wood. Please refer to photos.
