This large four-panel folding screen features a richly detailed series of painted scenes in a restrained black and ochre palette. Likely produced in the 20th century, the screen presents narrative and symbolic imagery across each vertical panel, including figures in court dress, warriors on horseback, domestic animals, and stylized landscape elements such as clouds, pavilions, and rocky outcrops. The upper and lower sections are decorated with finely rendered animals, birds, fruit, and foliage—composed in a stylized but expressive manner.
Each panel is framed in a dark wood structure, with the surface finished in a lacquered black ground that has developed a distinctive craquelure, adding depth and patina to the design. The scenes are likely lightly incised and filled with colored pigments or gilt, a technique often used in decorative screens from the region. The reverse is undecorated.
