Description

A vintage Chinese red lacquer wedding chest from the Mid-20th Century with gilded calligraphy, low drawer and brass hardware. Created in China during the midcentury period, this wedding chest showcases a red lacquer perfectly complimenting its clean and elegant lines. The chest features a rectangular domed lid opening thanks to a traditional brass medallion lock to reveal a light honey brown varnished interior offering convenient storage opportunities. The façade showcases gilded calligraphy referring to blessing and longevity. This treasure chest was therefore likely a wedding gift, offered as part of the dowry.

The façade's lower section presents a single drawer with ornate brass pull while the sides comprise of C-scroll handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily. The ensemble is raised on a conforming plinth. With its clean lines and red lacquer, this Chinese vintage wedding treasure chest from the Mid-20th Century will bring a pop of color to any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom or living room.
