An antique Chinese elmwood low kang cabinet with everted flanges, two petite doors, scrolls and floral motifs. This exquisite Chinese low kang cabinet features a rectangular planked top, adorned with two everted flanges on the sides. The molded cornice below is accented with delicate dovetailed motifs of lighter color. The façade is made of two petite doors fitted with circular brass medallions, that open to reveal two narrow shelves. Our eye is immediately drawn to the scrolling and floral accents of the skirt and side panels.
The term kang comes from a platform destined to accommodate people atop, typically found in Northern China and made of hollow bricks allowing to burn fuel underneath to provide some heat. The furniture placed around had therefore to be low. With its lovely proportions and elmwood patina, this Chinese low kang cabinet will bring an exotic touch to any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom, living room or hallway.
