A striking blue and white Chinese porcelain jar featuring a hand-painted four-clawed dragon in underglaze cobalt blue, coiling in pursuit of a flaming pearl among stylized clouds and flame motifs. This vintage lidded vessel exemplifies the imperial aesthetic long associated with traditional Chinese ceramics, with cobalt blue brushwork rendered in bold, expressive strokes against a glazed light ground.
The jar's form is tall and gently tapered, with a wide shoulder that transitions to a narrower neck, flanked by four molded lion mask handles—a detail often seen on ceremonial or presentation jars. The domed lid is surmounted by a seated foo dog finial, enhancing the jar’s sculptural presence and reinforcing traditional themes of protection and authority. A ring of stylized waves anchors the design at the base. The opening measures approximately 5.5 inches in diameter, making it functional as a dramatic display piece or for grand floral arrangements.
