This antique wooden trunk features distinctive decorative metalwork and robust iron hardware, blending function with striking handwrought ornament. The rectangular form is clad with pierced brass and iron mounts arranged in rhythmic bands along the edges, lid, and base—both protecting the structure and contributing to its decorative appeal. Brass diamond motifs punctuate the front and sides, while traditional butterfly hinges and a shaped lock plate center the front face.
The aged patina of the wood is warm and rich, bearing signs of use consistent with its age and original function as a secure storage chest. The forged iron side handles mounted on pierced brass backplates offer visual weight and practical utility, allowing the trunk to be lifted or repositioned. Inside, the lid opens to reveal a clean and spacious interior suitable for storing linens, books, or keepsakes.
