Created in Indonesia circa 1900, this antique architectural panel is densely hand-carved with scrolling foliage, stylized leaves and floral forms in pronounced relief. Remnants of gilding animate the deep red painted ground.
Time has softened the original surface to a nuanced palette of muted gold, faded red and exposed brown wood. Removed from a larger structure, the long horizontal fragment now reads as a sculptural wall object above a console, cabinet or doorway.
