An Indonesian polychrome dresser from Madura with carved drawers and verdigris highlights. We have another dresser available that is very similar and will make for a perfect pair. See item YN6628. Born in Madura off of the northeastern coast of Java during the 19th century, this chest captures our attention with its richly carved floral décor and polychrome patina. A rectangular top with beveled edges, sits above three drawers (two small ones followed by a larger one), adorned with gilt carved flowers and foliage, standing out beautifully on a verdigris ground.
Boasting a lovely contrast of colors playing with gold, green, brown and red accents, the dresser is raised on short scrolling feet carved with masks, connected to one another through an apron decorated on three sides. With its richly carved motifs and lovely polychromy, this Madurese 19th century dresser will be a great focal point in any living room or bedroom. The second chest is shown in image 4. Each dresser is $1,600.
