Description

An antique Chinese natural wood finish cabinet from the early 20th century with hand-painted black calligraphy, figures and brass hardware. Created in China during the early years of the 20th century, this cabinet features a rectangular top with recessed panel in the center, sitting above an elegant façade. Two doors, fitted with ornate brass hardware, are adorned with perfectly organized panels with molded accents, hand-painted with black motifs showcasing foliage, figures in landscapes and calligraphy.

The left door is adorned with a bearded character with tall headdress, perhaps an Imperial figure, served by a man bowing in front of him, while the right one presents two walking men, likely a wise man and his servant. These doors open to reveal inner shelves offering convenient storage space. The façade is completed by delicately carved spandrels connecting the straight legs to the skirt. The sides are made of simple panels while the back showcases planked boards. With its clean lines and faint yet subtle hand-painted décor, this Chinese cabinet from the early 20th century will make for an elegant addition to any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom or living room.
