Description

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period elm wood butterfly sideboard from the 19th century, with carved grapevines and meander motifs, natural finish and bronze hardware. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty in the 19th century, this elm wood sideboard features a rectangular top with central board, showcasing imperfections revealing its age. The façade showcases two doors fitted with a traditional bronze medallion locked with a key, opening to reveal a dark brown colored interior with nicely distressed appearance.

It is the décor however, which attracts our attention with its carved spandrels adorned with a delicate arrangement of grapevines, leading our eyes to the apron in the lower section, presenting a frieze of meander motifs. With its elegant lines, skillfully carved décor and warm patina, this 19th century Chinese elm wood butterfly sideboard will bring an exotic presence to any home, perhaps placed in a living room, bedroom or hallway.
