This 20th century sideboard comes from Shanxi, a north-eastern province of China, where it was made with red lacquered elm. This long sideboard features three sets of doors, opening thanks to traditional Chinese handles on a great storage area with one shelf. The sideboard is covered with a red lacquer with a beautiful patina on the doors, which reminds the antique Chinese lacquer tradition. The bottom apron is lightly carved with a dentate wavy motif.
Thanks to its impressive dimensions (more than 80 inches), this 19th century Shanxi red lacquered elm sideboard would be a great storage unit in most homes, especially in a dining room holding the family’s china.
