A 19th century hand-painted chinoiserie and red lacquer armoire from China. This Chinese 19th century armoire displays a red lacquer and hand-painted gilt chinoiserie designs.
The piece is varnished with a red lacquer. The front edge showcases gilt designs, and the two doors feature hand-painted gilt chinoiserie, perhaps a palace scene with Chinese characters. The doors have drop pulls that are mounted on a very large round back plate, half on each door.
The doors open fully to allow a tv or other items to be accessed. Inside there are three drawer pulls. This Chinese 19th century hand-painted chinoiserie and red lacquer armoire would be an uncommon storage unit in most homes, especially a bedroom or guest room.
