This long elm console table made in the Chinese region of Shandong from the second half of the 19th century is covered with an exquisite deep black lacquer with gold rubbed red lacquered details. The apron and the base are nicely carved with typical Chinese motifs such as cloud scrolls and geometrical patterns. An elegant motif in the calligraphic style adorns the legs, and is enhanced by the gold rubbed details.
The sides with openwork are adorned with beautiful stylized vegetable motifs. This gorgeous altar table from Shandong circa 1870 would be a sophisticated and exotic item in most homes.
