An elaborately decorated 18th century bronze bell from Burma. This bell features a tall belly with three decorative rings, the top ring featuring petal motifs. The bell can be hung thanks to a ring displaying a rich foliage and lion adornment and surmounted by a goddess figure. This figure is likely the Deva of the Tavatimsa Heaven, whose attention was attracted by these kinds of bells. The tinkle of these bells is said to also remind one of the Buddha’s endless compassion and wisdom.
This 18th century Burmese temple bronze bell with elaborate adornment would be an unusual addition to most homes, perhaps exhibited on a side table in a living room or hanging in a kitchen or dining room.
