A large 19th century Chinese temple pedestal hand-carved from stone. This pedestal adopts a Fine rectangular shape and is carved on two sides. The front is hand-carved in low relief with a variety of patterns including simple geometrical and abstract patterns, plants, a circular design and two columns of monks standing on top of one another. The side echoes the geometric and abstract patterns.
This pedestal was likely built into the wall of a temple or the private home of a wealthy Chinese citizen. This 19th century Chinese hand-carved stone temple pedestal would bring an elegant decorative touch to any home, perhaps as a planter in a garden or inside and displaying reeds or bamboo sticks.
