A Dutch Colonial lacquered wood armoire from the 19th century, with hexagonal columns, upper drawers and two paneled doors. This Indonesian Dutch Colonial armoire features a rectangular molded cornice, sitting above two upper drawers, flanked with incised geometrical motifs. A set of double doors makes up the rest of the façade. Each door is elegantly adorned with geometrical recessed panels, highlighted by petite diamond motifs and accented on the sides with thin hexagonal columns, topped with exquisite acanthus leaf capitals. These doors open to reveal two inner shelves. The armoire is raised on four feet, the front ones being elongated toupie, while the back ones are tapered.
The general linearity of the piece is perfectly contrasted with the delicate curves of the door panels and front feet. With its elegant silhouette and lovely décor, this 19th century Indonesian Dutch Colonial lacquered wood armoire made for export to Europe will bring a graceful presence to any bedroom or living room.
