Description

A small Chinese elmwood altar coffer sideboard from the early 20th century, with carved spandrels and brass hardware. Created in China during the early years of the 20th century, this elm coffer features a rectangular top with central board, sitting above two doors fitted with a traditional brass medallion.

Adorned with remnants of paper and calligraphy on the inside, these doors open to reveal an inner shelf and a single hidden drawer. Flanked with skillfully carved spandrels on the sides adorned with scrolling foliage, the sideboard is raised on four straight feet connected to one another through an apron carved in the front.

With its graceful lines and warm patina, this early 20th century Chinese elmwood altar coffer will bring a touch of exotic elegance to any bedroom, living room or foyer.
