Description

A long Chinese Qing Dynasty period wooden scroll box from the 19th century, with brass hardware. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period, this unusual scroll box features a rectangular body sitting on a small plinth. The lid opens thanks to a brass lock to reveal a narrow interior while the ensemble is flanked with C-scroll handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily. This kind of item was used to store scrolls, probably both painted and written.

The size of the box was important because it dictated how big the scrolls could be. With its clean lines and brown patina, this unusual 19th century Qing Dynasty Chinese long scroll box with brass hardware will make for a great storage piece in most homes, perhaps closed in a den to store books or documents, or open in a living room to showcase plants.
